    GSFAC’s Outlook is Wildly Wonderful!

BARS+TONE -- The view of San Francisco was expansive from the 11th floor Board room of the old Hamm’s Brewery building.  BARS+TONE hosted the Greater San Francisco Ad Club’s Outlook Meeting that was attended by the 2010-11 GSFAC Board members.

The Outlook was rosy, exciting and the meeting was productive:  more events this year, more benefits for the members, more enthusiasm from everybody involved.  GSFAC is the advertising community’s best link to “What’s Happening in Advertising”.

Some of the ideas and plans that were presented include a new mantra: “Connecting and Celebrating the San Francisco Advertising Community.” A value-added agenda for members will drive the club’s programs and events planning. GSFAC plans to have 10 events during the July 2010 to June 2011 fiscal year including a Jobs Fair this Fall and the ADDY Awards Gala on February 26, 2011.

In addition, there will be mixers & workshop events to facilitate networking and career enhancement.

The promised new, improved website and social media network will be up and running in September. You will see an announcement come through Facebook and in an email blast. The continuing focus on education in advertising and marketing from student scholarships to “Job Fair” and to providing young professionals with an entrée to ad agency management and HR directors through the “Career Panel” event will be strengthened. This coming year is a winner!

The 2010-11 Board will begin their term in July 2010, the start of GSFAC’s fiscal year.

The GSFAC 2010 General Meeting & Board Election was a great opportunity for members and guest to meet and share ideas with current and incoming GSFAC Board Members.

Kathy Mitchell, President presented an overview of this last year (2009-2010) and the ad club’s activities and progress, from the “Power Breakfast” in January, the ADDY Awards presentation at SFMOMA in March to the “Career Development Panel” in early May.

The General Meeting was well attended, however, we could have accomodated more of our over 100 members.

Publicis Modem — A beautiful San Francisco afternoon, College finals, even Cinco de Mayo did not deter students and young professionals from attending the “Career Development Panel” event put on by Greater San Francisco Ad Club and hosted by Publicis Modem thanks to John Rabasa.

The panelists were JC Curran The Creative Group, Marlies Gammon Y&R, Rory Noguchi BBDO West, Steve Patrizi LinkedIn, and Jon Soto BBDO West.  They were great at giving aspiring advertising students and committed young advertising professionals an overview of the advertising job market, opportunities and approaches to making a success of getting into the business and rising once there.

The Q&A session was spirited and candid opinions prevailed.  Many of the attendees were able to speak one-on-one with the panelists and other advertising agency professionals in attendance during the reception.

This is just a beginning: this Fall 2010, GSFAC will host a “Job Fair” for students and professionals, TBA.

GSFAC extends our thanks to the panelists (L to R): JC Curran, Jon Soto, Rory Noguchi, Marlies Gammon & Steve Patrizi.  Photos: Tom Minczeski Photography.
