Do you need to renew your membership? Many members re-up in conjunction with their ADDY entries. If you’re still getting renewal notices, be sure to renew before January 30.

Save the date: the ADDY Awards Presentation & Gala is the hottest ticket in San Francisco! 

Most of the major advertising agencies and creative houses in the San Francisco Bay Area have their ADDY entries in, and this year’s show promises to be bigger and better than ever! Entries so far surpass last year’s count, and members and friends of all four AAF affiliate clubs (AD2SF, AAF Silicon Valley, Greater San Francisco Ad Club and sfBIG, this year’s ADDY Awards hosts) are well represented with great creative.

The sit-down dinner event at The Bentley Reserve on Saturday, February 26 has limited seating: this elegant venue can accommodate just thirty-five tables of ten persons each. One seat at each table is donated to an advertising student, and Student ADDY entrants get preference. GSFAC has sponsorship opportunities available as well.

The Ad Club has ten tables available with two already reserved (this before the invite has even been sent out). For more information and to reserve a table for your company and guests, call 510-658-4883 or 
email the Executive Director. This is the premiere SF advertising event and the showcase for the best talent in the world (in our humble opinion). Be there undefined reserve today!

January Board Meeting – Any member in good standing is welcome to attend the Ad Club’s monthly board meeting. Our January meeting will be held at the Berkeley City Club on Thursday, January 20 undefined hey, that’s today! The Club sincerely thanks our hosts at the Berkeley City Club and board member Diane Rames.

2011 College and High School Scholarships – Are you a college sophomore or junior in the Bay Area studying advertising, design, communications, journalism, marketing, media or a subject directly related to these fields? A high school senior leaning in this direction, perhaps? GSFAC has a scholarship for you! We’ll have more specifics in an upcoming newsletter, but for now, save the application deadline: Monday, April 4.

Meet the Club’s Newest Board Members

John Gumas – Veteran of the advertising and marketing industry, John founded Gumas Advertising in 1984. John embraced Cultural Branding early in his career and quickly recognized that spirited clients weren’t being serviced well by the big boys. And that’s when Gumas was born. John currently sits on many boards, including Chairman of the San Francisco Giants Community Fund, The San Francisco Chamber of Commerce, The San Francisco State University Foundation and The Elios Society. (Just when he thought he was out: this is his second stint on GSFAC’s board.)

In addition, John is an adjunct professor of advertising and marketing, a regular columnist for numerous publications, an author and a frequent speaker. He holds a degree in marketing and advertising from San Francisco State University.

Heather Henley Swedeen – Heather brings a decade of experience in account management from advertising agencies like The Richards Group, Chiat\Day, Cutwater, and Eleven, Inc. Client experience includes The Home Depot, Jeep,, and Apple. But it’s her enthusiasm for identifying and growing industry talent that has led Heather to her current position as Director of Training and Recruitment at Eleven, Inc. In this role, Heather is responsible for agency outreach, internal training programs, and agency cultural initiatives. In other words, Heather gets to meet really cool people, hire the best, help grow their careers, and, from time to time, throw a kick-ass party or two!

Heather holds a B.A. in Journalism from the University of Oklahoma and an M.A. in Advertising from the University of Texas at Austin. An avid runner and traveler, Heather and her husband Blair try to explore a new country each year.
